Winners of The World Cup Championship in 2007 & 2012
The World Cup Blue Marlin Championship (World Cup) is an international event that takes place on July 4 in 18 countries with top sports fishing teams competing around the globe. No other big game tournament allows teams to fish anywhere in the world for 8 hours in their time zones. The World Cup is for 1 day only, for 1 species only (Blue Marlin) and only 1 winner.
In July 2012 Captain Peter Olander; captain aboard the Queen of Hearts called in at 1:38 PM that they had a Blue Marlin hooked and on the fishing line. After a 93 minute battle, angler Glen Astwood finally securied the winning 768 pound Blue Marlin to take the daily jackpot in the Billfish Blast and lead in the World Cup. As the clock struck midnight, there was no chatter on the radio, only the shouts of joy from the Bermudian docks. The local fisherman aboard the Queen of Hearts with owner Walter Cross, Captain Peter Olander, anglers Lovintz Cann, Glenn Astood and Kevin Walsh had claimed their stake as World Cup champions for the second time in five years.
